Tata Motors is currently is gearing up for the launch of its flagship SUV, the Hexa which is expected in January. This will be followed by Kite 5 compact sedan and the Nexon compact SUV. The next project of Tata is reported to be a premium hatchback codenamed X451. Emerging reports sheds some light on the Baleno rivaling of Tata Motors in the making.

The new Tata X451 is in the process of being designed and developed for Indian car markets and even exports, reports MotorOctane. The premium hatchback will have a design in line with the Impact design language. This means that it will bear a humanity line and also have a honeycomb mesh grille. It will be flanked by swept back designed headlamp with daytime running LEDs integrated in them. The silhouette of the hatchback will be designed to look like an SUV with the comfort of a car.

The X451 will be based on Tata's Advanced Modular Platform (AMP). Tata Motors has plans to release several new models based on the same platform till 2020. The X451 will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel mill borrowed from the Nexon compact SUV. The engines are expected to develop power in the range of 100-110bhp and will be offered either in a six-speed manual or AMT transmission options.

Being premium model, the X451 will boast of best in class interior. The hatchback is expected with Harman infotainment system with reverse camera, navigation, telephone connectivity and 15-inch alloy wheels. The dual airbags, ABS with EBD is also expected as standard. The X451 will be priced at a range Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

The reports further suggest the possibility of a premium sedan based on the X451, which will be pitted against the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Honda City. If Tata goes ahead with the X451 premium sedan, it will fill the void in the company's product portfolio left by the discontinued Manza sedan.
