Buoyed by the overwhelming sales response to Tiago, Tata Motors has already said that it will launch a new variant of the hatchback. While Tiago with AMT is slated for launch in the festive season, emerging reports say that Tata is also working on a more potent Tiago version.
With Tiago Sport, Tata is betting big on and more aspirational, reports Autocar India. The halo model of Tiago will be powered by a turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol motor that will also power the upcoming Nexon compact SUV of Tata Motors. The engine of Tiago Sport is expected to develop close to 120bhp aided with bigger turbo unit. This also means that Tiago Sport will be the new member in the hot hatch segment of India. The segment currently has Fiat Abarth Punto while Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS will join in the upcoming festive season.
In addition to the souped up engine, Tiago Sport is expected to come with a lowered suspension and stiffer damping. This will provide more grip and stability while taking corners. To distinguish the go faster version over the regular version, Tiago Sport is expected to get an aggressive body kit. The kit may include sportier front and rear bumpers, side skirts, spoiler and side decals.
The company had recently increased prices of Tiago after four months of its launch. Prices of all the models, except the base variants, have been bumped up by Rs 6,000. Tata Motors has received over 40,000 bookings for the hatchback so far and waiting period now commands close to three months. Tata Motors is also planning to ramp up production of Tiago at its Sanand manufacturing unit in Gujarat.
