Tata Tiago NRG cross-hatch launched at Rs 5.49 lakh; rivals Maruti Suzuki CelerioX

Cross-hatch cars are one of the vehicle segments that got serious traction in India recently especially among the urban audience. Tata Motors has now thrown its hat in the burgeoning segment with the launch of the Tiago NRG.

Tata Tiago NRG is essentially a jazzed up cross-hatch version of the Tiago hatchback offered in both petrol and diesel options. Tata Motors has priced the Tiago NRG petrol at Rs 5.49 lakh while the diesel variant costs Rs 6.31 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The pricing makes the NRG versions around Rs 30,000 premium over the price of top-spec Tiago XZ.

Offered in Malabar Silver, Canyon Orange and Fuji White colour options with dual tone infinity black roof, the Tiago NRG edition also gets roof rails as standard. The ruggedness of the Tiago NRG has been intensified with the body kit featuring black plastic claddings on both bumpers, sides and wheel arches. The tailgate has a thick black section that connects both the tail lamps. The front grille, roof, rear view mirror caps, rear spoiler and the B-pillar have been finished in black. Both front and rear bumpers get faux brushed-aluminium skid plates and four-spoke dual tone DurAlloy wheels (not alloy wheels) complete the look.

Inside the cabin, all black upholstery get contrasting Canyon orange highlights. Tata Motors claims the seats with body-hugging bolsters featuring a unique denim inspired fabric. The Tiago NRG also comes packed with 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system by Harman with 8 speakers, dual front airbags, reverse parking assist, follow-me-home lamps and others.

There are no changes to the powertrain and transmission. The Tiago NRG will continue with 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol and 1.0-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel mills. However, Tata Motors has specially tuned suspension of Tiago NRG for rough road terrains. The NRG edition also boasts off 180mm ground clearance (up by 10mm).

Tata Tiago NRG will go up against the Maruti Suzuki CelerioX. The cross-hatch of Maruti Suzuki is offered in eight variant options and it has been priced from Rs 4.63 lakh to Rs 5.48 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
