Tata Motors confirmed to International Business Times, India that the delivery of the new Tiago has begun in all major Indian cities. Tata Tiago, the new addition in the hatchback segment, was launched April 6 at a price starting at Rs. 3.2 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The Tiago, which competes with the likes of Hyundai i10, Maruti Celerio and Chevrolet Beat in the mid-hatchback segment, has started arriving at the dealers' showrooms. While Tata is expected to announce the booking figures of the Tiago in the coming days, a few dealers that IBT spoke to said the hatchback is getting positive response. A dealer in Bangalore said they have received over 70 bookings already, and more are likely to happen soon.

The Tiago, Tata's first offering to be based on its Impact design language, currently also commands a waiting period of up to two months depending on the city. In Bangalore, the waiting period for the Tiago is two months for diesel variants and one month for the petrol car. In Chennai, both the petrol and diesel models have a waiting period of up to two months.

The Tiago claims to deliver a mileage of 23.84 kmpl for petrol and 27.28 kmpl for diesel versions, respectively. While the 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol mill churns out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, the 1.0-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine produces 69bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 1,800-3,000rpm. Both the engines come teamed with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Available in five variants — XB, XE, XM, XT and XZ, the Tiago comes in six colour options — striker blue, berry red, sunburst orange, espresso brown, pearlescent white and platinum silver. Tata's new hatchback is open for bookings with a down payment of Rs. 10,000.

An earlier report had said that the Tiago's production at the company's Sanand plant in Gujarat is in full swing. The plant, which operates in two shifts, is currently producing 500 unit of the Tiago per day.
