It is no secret that Tata Motors is readying a new hatchback codenamed Kite for the Indian auto lovers and the car has been caught on camera numerous times.
Now a new prototype of Tata Kite has been snapped undergoing testing near the company's facility at Pimpri in Maharashtra and this time around the test mule looks production-ready.
The latest test mule was captured on the camera by Indian Autos Blog reader, Kuldeep Bhosale. Judging from the images, Tata Kite appears to be production model with new tail-lights and rear bumper, albeit camouflaged.
Tata Kite, a hatchback based on new Indica platform is likely to get power from company's new 1.05-litre three-cylinder common-rail diesel motor, which can churn out a power of 64.1bhp and 14.27kgm of torque and all-new 1.2-litre petrol engine. As far as the transmission is concerned, Kite is likely to get five speed manual gearboxes. There have also been rumours about automated manual transmission (AMT).
Previous spy shots have shown features like body-coloured rear-view mirrors and diamond-cut eight-wheel alloy wheels. Kite is expected to get a design similar to Tata Zest and Bolt.
When launched, the model will rival Maruti Celerio and Hyundai Grand i10 in the domestic market and is likely to get a price tag in the ₹4 lakh brackets.
Meanwhile, Tata will officially launch its new hatchback Bolt in the country on 22 January. Bolt will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. Under the hood, the petrol variant of the car packs 1.2-litre Revotron turbo-charged engine, which is tuned to generate 84bhp at 5,000rpm and a torque of 140Nm of 1,750-3,500rpm.
The diesel model gets 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel motor that can generate 73bhp and peak torque of 190Nm. Both the engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
