The Supreme Court rejected the plea to "rename India as Bharat" and asked the petitioner to seek response from the concerned authorities before approaching the court again.

"You (the petitioner) can come to us only after the authorities have responded to your representation or choose not to response," IANS cited the court's statement.

The apex court Bench headed by Chief Justice HL Dattu told the petitioner to prepare a presentation pointing out reasons and arguments in favour of his plea to change the nation's name to "Bharat," and make appropriate represention in front of the concerned authorities.

Only when the authority has addressed the issue raised by the petitioner, he can once again seek hearing in the Supreme Court. After asking the petitioner to follow the procedures, the Bench dismissed his plea as withdrawn.
