A 30-year-old man accused of killing and beheading his wife in Guwahati has told reporters that he has "no regret" or "apology" for the crime and allegedly threatened to kill another man whom he referred to as his wife's "sugar daddy" if he is released from jail.

The accused, Ramanuj Goswami, was arrested after allegedly killing his 25-year-old wife, Riya Talukdar Goswami, at their residence in Guwahati's Beltola area. Police said the incident took place on September 3 following an argument between the couple.

Wife's body recovered from Guwahati flat

The case came to light after family members reportedly failed to contact the couple for around two days. Neighbours also alerted authorities after noticing a foul smell coming from the flat.

Police subsequently recovered Riya's body from the residence. Her severed head was found wrapped in a plastic bag inside a refrigerator, while investigators also recovered a sharp weapon believed to have been used in the crime.

The couple had married in September 2025 and had reportedly been living together in the Guwahati flat.

Accused claims he has no remorse

While being taken for a medical examination, Goswami reportedly told reporters that he had no regret or apology for killing his wife. He also allegedly said that he would target the man he described as his wife's "sugar daddy" if he came out of jail.

The accused did not identify the person he was referring to. Police are investigating the circumstances behind the statement and the alleged motive for the murder.
