A number of photos have leaked from the sets of 'Star Wars' episode IX as the filming began in full swing. The recent photos show Poe and Finn on a mission together along with Rey's current co-pilot Chewbacca.
On August 23, The Sun had published leaked photos from the shooting locations of Star Wars IX, directed by J.J. Abrams. The publication mentioned that the ninth episode in the Skywalker saga was shot just outside London.
John Boyega and Oscar Isaac can be seen in character --Finn and Poe -- standing on a grassy hill, inspecting what are probably some gadgets developed 'a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.' The object in Poe's hand looks like a binocular.
Standing at the top of the Hill is Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, a bushy-haired female character reportedly played by series newcomer Naomi Mackie. Others in the background, who might be extras, seem like simple rural folks trying desperately to survive against the onslaught of The First Order. Perhaps they joined the Resistance.
A number of horses also appear in the photos. They have been covered in a thick layer of matted down hair and have motion capture markers on their faces. A new equine race of Star Wars animal can be expected in the film. 'The Last Jedi' gave us the Fathiers, who are taller and slimmer than horses.
In a particular photo, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac can be seen running away from something off-screen. Perhaps, the First Order troops have tracked them or they may be running away from an explosive device they've planted to destroy an enemy base.
In another set of photos, Joonas Suotamo can be seen resting, having taken his Chewbacca mask off. The plot is still being kept under wraps as it is the standard practice.
The Sun also revealed in the exclusive report that actor Ewan McGregor would be reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi from the Star Wars prequels. His last Star Wars appearance was in 'Revenge of the Sith,' (2005) directed by franchise creator George Lucas. McGregor had a voice cameo in 'The Force Awakens.' Alec Guinness played Obi-Wan in the original trilogy, starting with episode IV.
Other returning actors include Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. The late Carrie Fisher's character General Leia, will appear in the film thanks to footage shot of the actress for 'The Force Awakens.'
Bittersweet starting this next chapter without Carrie, but thanks to an extraordinary cast and crew, we are ready to go. Grateful for @rianjohnson and special thanks to George Lucas for creating this incredible world and beginning a story of which we are lucky to be a part. #IX pic.twitter.com/FOfnGwVut5— JJ Abrams (@jjabrams) August 1, 2018
Making Star Wars Net has also posted similar blurry photos of the Millennium Falcon in the jungles of Black Park in Buckinghamshire, England. More photos from the sets are expected to emerge soon.
Star Wars IX is set to release on December 20, 2019.
