The death anniversary of the patron saint of Ireland â€" Saint Patrick â€" is observed as St. Patrick's Day by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion, the Eastern Orthodox Church and Lutheran Church March 17 every year since early 17th century.

St. Patrick, the fifth-century Romano-British Christian missionary is known as the Apostle of Ireland. The most predominant feature of the day is the use of green colour and people celebrate the holiday with Irish themed parties, parades, alcoholic drinks and food in the Great Britain, the United States, Argentina, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Large street parades are organised in Chicago, Boston, Houston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Denver, New Orleans and many other cities in the U.S.
