The Andhra police sounded a terror alert on Wednesday in Sriharikota, Tada and other areas in Nellore district and have launched a manhunt for five suspected activists of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

The alert comes in the wake of inputs from intelligence agencies that five SIMI activists may be hiding in Nellore district, IANS reported.

Securitiy in and around Sriharikota, including Sriharikota Range (SHAR), Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) Satish Dhawan Space Centre and other vital installations in Nellore has been beefed up following the alert.

Both the Andhra and Tamil Nadu police are said to be working jointly to nab five suspects of a bomb blast that happened last year in Chennai. An intense search is on along the borders of the two states.
