Even as the official announcement on Ajith-Gautham Menon's film is still awaited, speculations about the film have been on the rise with each passing day.

The biggest buzz of all doing the rounds is that Ajith will be appearing in a double role in the Gautham Menon directorial. It is being said that the actor will be playing as the hero and the villain in the film, according to report in Sify. Earlier, there were rumours that Ajith will be donning the role of a cop. However, there was no official confirmation on the same.

Besides speculations over Ajith's role in the film, there are a lot of buzz surrounding the film's other cast and crew members. Anushka Shetty has reportedly been confirmed to play the female lead opposite Ajith.

Music has always been one of the biggest highlights in Gautham films. On the music front for "Thala 55" (tentatively named by fans), Anirudh does not seem be in the picture any more. Apparently, Oscar winner AR Rahman has not yet given his consent due to his busy schedule. Interestingly, Rahman is working on the sound tracks of Gautham's another upcoming project with Simbu.

There is also a buzz that Gautham has been holding talks with Harris Jayaraj to compose music for the film. If Rahman does not take up the project, Harris is likely to come on board and reunite with Gautham after six long years after their last film "Vaaram Aayiram" released, reported Behindwoods.

Sify website also reported that the director is holding talks to rope in cinematographer SR Kathir, who has worked in films such as "Kattradhu Thamizh" and "Subramaniapuram," to handle cinematography for "Thala 55," which will be produced by AM Ratnam.

It has to be noted that if Gautham works in this project, it will be his first association with Ajith.

An official announcement clearing all these speculations over "Thala 55" is expected to be made on 19 March.
