Bollywood is obsessed with making multiple movies on the Ramayana, from Adipurush to Namit Malhotra's Ramayana and now Anjali Arora's mythological film Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha. A month ago, when it was announced that Anjali Arora would essay the role of Mata Sita, netizens fumed with rage and slammed the makers for casting her.

And now, just when Anjali Arora was facing backlash, a new controversy has erupted. The poster of Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha has caught the attention of social media users for an unexpected detail. A vanar character can be seen wearing spectacles, prompting amused reactions and a flurry of memes online.

The film was released on Friday, September 25, 2026, and on Thursday, the makers unveiled posters introducing other characters from the movie. In the poster introducing the character of Sugriv, an actor in the background is seen sporting spectacles.

Apart from that, many other characters are also seen in outfits and costumes that appear bizarre and unusual and do not go in sync with how the Treta Yuga (ancient times) is traditionally depicted.

The viral poster shows Sugriv in his get-up, while one of the vanar characters is seen wearing spectacles. The detail led to several humorous comments on social media, with users questioning how modern eyewear appeared in a story set in the Treta Yuga.

One social media user asked, "Treta yug mein bhi chashma lagate the?"

Some users even turned the detail into memes, joking that the character could be a time traveller.

What is Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha about?

The film tells the story of Shri Ram through the perspective of a young boy named Shashwat. According to the film's synopsis, Lord Hanuman appears as a sage and narrates Shri Ram's life and journey to the child.

The story covers major portions of the Ramayana, including Sita's swayamvar, Ram's exile, the conflict with Ravan and his eventual return to Ayodhya. The film has been released in Hindi and Chhattisgarhi.

Anjali Arora on trolling

At the trailer launch of the film, Anjali Arora spoke about the trolling she has been facing on social media.

She said, "No, I didn't feel sad about it because we are public figures, and we have given the public the right to judge us. So, it is their wish to judge us positively or negatively. Everyone has the authority to like it or not like it. We are actors; whatever character is offered to us, we will portray it by giving it our 100 per cent.

"Once it comes out in front of the public, it is their decision how they want to look at it. I have played the role of Sita Maa, and now, after watching the trailer, did you feel that she is the same Anjali whom we see on social media? My only aim is that when the audience watches the movie, they keep my personal life and personality aside."
