Consumer electronics giant Sony has launched the new Xperia Z5 series smartphones in India. Sony originally unveiled three Xperia Z5 series models- a premium model, a regular flagship and a compact variant at the internationally-acclaimed consumers electronics trade fair (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin 2015) in September.
However, among the three, the company is launching only two variants – Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium in India. Xperia Z5 Compact is expected to be released later in the year.
For the uninitiated, Xperia Z5 Premium is world's first smartphone to boast 4K resolution display. It features a 5.5-inch screen with a staggering pixel density of 806 ppi (pixels per inch), thus guaranteeing ultimate video viewing experience than any other smartphone in the market.
Under-the-hood, it houses a Snapdragon 810 processor, backed by 3GB RAM 32GB inbuilt memory and a high-capacity 3,430 mAh battery to power the high-resolution display. The company claims that the phone can run for close to two days with single full-charge. It also boasts QuickCharge v2.0 technology as well.
On the other hand, 5.2-inch based flagship Xperia Z5 model too features pretty much the same internal hardware seen inside the Premium model, only difference is that it packs a 2,900 mAh battery.
Both the devices boast top-notch camera hardware. They come with feature-rich 23MP camera with Sony Exmor RS for mobile sensor, Hybrid Auto Focus 0.03 sec, 5 x Clear Image Zoom and a wide-angle 5mp snapper on the front. [Detailed camera details below]
Another noteworthy feature is that Xperia Z5 series are the first Sony smartphones to boast of finger-print sensor. It resides on the power button placed on the right side of the bezel.
Sony Xperia Z5, Z5 Premium India release and price details:
The company has confirmed that the new Xperia Z5 costs Rs 52,990 and will hit stores on 23 October.
Whereas, the Xperia Z5 Premium will set you back by Rs 62,990, almost equivalent to the Apple iPhone 6S series base variant. It is said to be made available on 7 November.
Competition:
Sony's top-end model Xperia Z5 Premium will be up against Samsung Galaxy Note 5, S6 Edge+, Apple's new iPhone 6S Plus, Motorola Moto X Style and the Google Nexus 6P made by Huawei.
5.2-inch Xperia Z5 will be competing with the Galaxy S6 (S6 Edge) series, Apple iPhone 6S, G4 and Google Nexus 5X made by LG.
