Sony while releasing the new Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to Xperia Z2 and Z3 series devices had claimed that Xperia Z1 series was the next in line to receive the new OS update, but it never materialised up until now.

In the mean time, the company shifted focus by rolling out the firmware to other mid-range devices Xperia C3 and T2 Ultra series, raising concerns among fans whether the company had hit any roadblock in delivering the software to 2013 flagship devices due to emergence of bugs.

Well, it looks like Sony has sorted out the issues and has begun deploying new Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update (build number: 14.6.A.0.368) via OTA (Over-The-Air) to Xperia Z1 (C6902 & C6903), Z1 Compact (D5503) and Z Ultra (C6833 & C6806) smartphones, reported Xperia Blog.

It is learnt that the new update comes with security software patch for the dreaded Stagefright vulnerability, which if left unchecked might let hackers take control of smartphones with just an MMS video riddled with malicious code.

Beside the bug-fix, other key features expected in the firmware include additional customisation options like silent modes including new alert system, camera improvements with superior auto-mode focus, enhanced enterprise support, Xperia in Business features for work and option to take selfie via SmartWear. That means users can use Sony's SmartWatch 3 as a remote shutter button.

How to install Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Update on Sony Xperia Z1 series & Z Ultra via OTA:

If Sony Xperia Z1 series & Z Ultra series device owners are getting the update notifications, then select "Yes, Download" option, and after downloading, select "Install now." The phone will restart automatically and the OS will be updated to the new version.

We would like to remind our readers that the roll-out process is being carried out in phases, so it will take some time to reach all corners of the world.

Until then, users can check for the OTA update manually by going to – 'Settings' >> 'About phone' >> 'System update' >> 'Check Now'.

With the release of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to Xperia Z1 series and Z Ultra, Sony is left with a couple of handsets to release the new update to complete the whole roll-out process. Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aquaare next in line to receive the latest firmware.
