After weeks of speculations, Sony's 4.6 inch Xperia A smartphone was finally unveiled by the company's network carrier partner NTT Docomo in Japan on Monday.

NTT Docomo has released limited details of Xperia A's specifications. According to a press release, the smartphone sports a 4.6-inch TFT LCD screen with HD 720x1280p display resolution and runs on the Android v4.1 Jelly Bean OS powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor. It packs a 2,300 mAh battery.

The new smartphone will also feature a water and dust-proof external case like its premium siblings, Xperia Z and ZR, which were launched earlier this year.

The network carrier has said that Xperia A will be sold in four colour variants - white, black, pink, and mint, and will hit stores on 17 May in Japan. But the company has remain silent regarding the price of the device.

As of now, there is no word on when the new Sony Xperia A will be made available in other Asian (including India) markets.
