The stage is set for the grand release of "Rajini Murugan", starring Sivakarthikeyan. The movie will be released worldwide on 14 January, on the occasion of Pongal festival.

The screen count of "Rajini Murugan" has reached 800 worldwide, and the film will release in about 400 theatres in Tamil Nadu alone. This is a huge number for a movie starring Sivakarthikeyan in spite of it facing competition from three other films.

The advance booking for "Rajini Murugan" has started with a bang, and has seen warm reception. The tickets for the first day in Chennai are selling like hot cakes. Going by the response, the film is mostly likely to run to packed houses on the first day in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

The holiday weekend is expected to work wonders for "Rajini Murugan", as the audience turnout to films during the Pongal festive season is usually very high in the state. Hence, the first-day collection of the Tamil movie is expected to be good in Tamil Nadu. Traders are watching curiously to see whether the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer sets new benchmarks at the box office.

Trader tracker Kannan feels the film will get a flying start. He has tweeted: "#Pongal Films update: @Siva_Kartikeyan's #RajiniMurugan will take a star opening all over TN as it got most screens & super adv booking too. (sic)" The good build-up seems to have whetted the audience's appetite big time.

"Rajini Murugan" is a masala entertainer written and directed by Ponram, with Samuthirakani, Rajkiran, Keerthy Suresh, Kanaka and others in the cast. Soori will be seen in a comic role, which is expected to be one of the highlights of the film.

Coming to the competition "Rajini Murugan" is facing, the Tamil film is up against the likes of Vishal Krishna's "Kathakali", Udhayanidhi Stalin-starrer "Gethu" and Sasikumar's "Tharai Thappatai". All four films are hitting the screens on the same day: 14 January.
