Comedian Kunal Kamra attended a CJP-led protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, where his speech triggered widespread debate over his remarks referencing Lord Ram.
CJP Protest: Kunal Kamra's swipe at govt as 'Sita ke pati ka naam' goes viral
Addressing the gathering on Wednesday, Kamra criticised the Centre, saying, "Pehle toh main kehna chahunga ki yeh jo sarkar hai, yeh jo kar rahi hai, yeh bahut saalon se kar rahi hai. Aur humne yeh dekha hai ki yeh bas Sita ke pati ka naam lekar, Nita ke pati ka kaam kar rahi hai."
("First of all, I would like to say that this government has been doing this for many years. We have seen that they are merely taking the name of Sita's husband (Lord Ram) while doing the work of Nita's husband.")
His remark quickly went viral on social media, with many criticising it as disrespectful towards Lord Ram. CJP member Abhijeet Dipke, who was present at the protest, was seen clapping and laughing following Kamra's statement.
Kunal Kamra attended the protest wearing a Mahatma Gandhi T-shirt. Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad also joined the demonstration and met Sonam Wangchuk, expressing support for the ongoing movement.
Actor Devoleena Bhattacharjee strongly criticised Kamra and accused him of using Wangchuk's movement to push his own agenda.

Sharing a post on X (formerly Twitter), Devoleena wrote that some people were "washing their hands in the flowing Ganges" by taking advantage of Sonam Wangchuk's protest for personal or political gains.
This government is working for Nita’s husband while taking the name of Sita’s husband.

She wrote, "Washing hands in the flowing Ganges is exactly what they call it. Even if SW's life doesn't end up slipping away... but our agenda should keep moving forward. We all know who benefited from Anna Hazare ji. Now, whether this hunger strike benefits the students or not... but this loot that's happening... we'll make sure to turn it to our advantage."
"This Govt has been fooling the public since ages

Behti ganga mein haath dhona isse hi kehte hai. Bhale hi SW ki jaan kyun nahi chali jaaye… but humara agenda chalte rehna cahiye…. Anna hazaare ji faaida kisne uthaya tha we all know… Ab iss hunger strike se student ka faaida ho yaa naa ho… par yeh jo lot hai.. yeh apna… https://t.co/iuVcEAf8os

She further urged those using the protest for their own messaging to take responsibility themselves, adding, "If that's all there is to it... then break his fast, somehow get him to eat, and sit on the hunger strike yourself instead."
For the unversed, the protest is part of an ongoing campaign against the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, student suicides, and broader education reforms. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike for the past 19 days, demanding accountability over the alleged examination irregularities and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
