According to the synopsis of the episode by TV.com: "Homer promises Marge her dream vacation to Paris, and then to defray the cost he makes a deal with the travel agent to act as a courier and transport a briefcase with top-secret info on the trip."

In the previous episode titled "Fland Canyon," Homer was trying to help Maggie sleep. After a few failed attempts, she hinted him that she wanted to hear a bedtime story. He started by telling the story of the Grand Canyon vacation with the Flanders.

The story took place two years earlier, with people from the church volunteering to clean skid row on a Saturday. At the end of the clean-up, Ned won a family trip to the Grand Canyon for being the most selfless cleaner. After reading the pamphlet, Ned realised it was a two-family trip. They invited the Lovejoy family, but they convinced Ned to take the Simpsons with them.

At the Grand Canyon, everyone was astonished by the view, but the two families were not getting along very well. Marge was angry at Maude because she thought Marge was not a good parent because of Bart and Homer's shenanigans, and the Flanders were annoyed for the same reason.

During a donkey trail, they were passed by a group of millionaires who used the canyon at their own wish. Later, the tour guide's donkey fell off the cliff with most of the supplies, leaving both families stranded in the canyon.
