The film's music, composed by AR Rahman, is said to be one of the major highlights. The audio launch is likely to be released in July and the film is expected to hit the screens in September. However, an official confirmation regarding the release date is still awaited.

Majority of the film's portions are said to be complete with only a song left to be shot, reported the Times of India. Besides Siddharth and Prithiviraj, "Kaaviya Thalaivan" has Vedhika, Anaika, Nassar, Thambi Ramaiah, Ponvannan and Babu Antony in pivotal roles.

Cinematographer Nirav Shah has handled the camera, while editing has been done by national award winning editor Praveen. Well-known writer Jayamohan has taken care of the dialogue department. Y'NOT Studios Sashi and Radiance Media Varun Manian have co-produced the film.

Director Vasanthabalan is popular for making hard hitting, realistic films like "Angaadi Theru", "Veyil" and "Aravaan." Siddharth-Prithviraj starrer is the director's fifth project ever since he made his directorial debut in 2002. It is his second period film post "Aravaan," which hit the screens in 2012.

"Kaaviya Thalaivan" deals with the lives of the Tamil theatre groups of the pre-independence era. There have been buzz that the film is a spin-off from the life and romance of previous era superstars S.G. Kittappa and K.B. Sundarambal. However, the director had denied the reports. "That's not true. But when I completed the story and sat back thinking of the protagonist, it was Kittappa's face that came to my mind. And I see a striking resemblance between Kittappa and Siddharth," Vasanthabalan told the Hindu. It was the reason as to why he cast Siddarth in the lead role of "Kaaviya Thalaivan," the director told the daily.

The film's first look posters have already generated good response and teaser is also likely to impress the fans.

Except for "Aravaan" and "Album", Vasantha Balan's films have been received well at the box office. His "Veyil" was the first Tamil film to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Considering the positive buzz surrounding "Kaaviya Thalaivan," the film could well be another successful project in the director's career.
