While several celebrities including Hansal Mehta, Karan Johar, Vishal Bharadwaj and Sakshi Tanwar having lent their support to the recent prostitution case against actress Shweta Basu Prasad, the recent one to speak up for the National Award winner is Deepika Padukone.

The "Finding Fanny" actress when asked about her views on the "Makdee" star's arrest, in a recent interview with India Times, clarified that she finds nothing wrong in Prasad's deeds, if it was the only way she could support her family.

"Let me put it this way – if that was the only thing she could do to support herself and family and it was the only way she could make money, there's nothing wrong with that." said Padukone.

Padukone believes that people should not look down on the young actress and instead should support her and expose the ones involved in the racket.

"Like a lot of people saying, I think it's extremely unfair. Since we know who she is, why are we not supporting her? Why are we making this a scandal? Instead, now that we know she has these issues, why don't we step forward and help her? Why do we not talk about the people who hired her to do what she's doing? I don't think we should look down on her for it but instead get together and support her." the actress added.

While, many other celebs avoided commenting on the prostitution scandal, Padukone's bold statement is indeed praiseworthy.

On 31 August, Prasad, 23, was found to have been involved in sex trade, in a plush Hyderabad hotel. The actress, however, admitted to have taken up the sex business as she had to financially support her family.

The actress is currently lodged in a rehabilitation home for women, where she will apparently stay for the next three months.

The talented actress gained popularity after she made her debut as a child actress in a hit TV serial "Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii". She even acted in Bollywood films like "Iqbal"(2005), "Makdee" (2002) among others. Prasad's performance in "Makdee" earned her the National Award for best child artist. Later, she tried her luck down South, where she managed to bag the lead actress role in some low budget South Indian films.
