Mamta Kulkarni, the bold actress of the 90's, has shocked all by tying the knot to drugs smuggler Vicky Goswami who has been serving a sentence in a Dubai prison until last year.

The once sexy siren, who was in the spotlight following her infamous topless shoot for a magazine cover and gained popularity by doing films like "Aashiq Awara" (1993), "Krantiveer" (1994), "Karan Arjun (1995), "Sabse Bada Khiladi", (1995) stayed away from the limelight for over ten years.

Recent reports suggested that the former actress married 52-year-old Goswami, who was convicted in 1997 to a life sentence on charges of trafficking 11.5 tonnes of mandrax worth $6 million. He was granted an early release on grounds of good behaviour. Whiel in jail, he had converted to Islam and had a 'nikaah' ceremony with Kulkarni, who had been handling his real estate business in his absence.

"A life sentence in Dubai is in effect 25 years, but prisoners can apply for early release on various grounds. Apart from good conduct, these include learning to recite passages from the Qu'ran or converting to Islam. To strengthen his clemency appeal, Goswami converted to Islam and was married according to Islamic rites while incarcerated," reported Mail & Guardian.

The couple was deported to India in December 2012 after Vicky was released from jail. They later moved to Nairobi, Kenya.

Mamta's marriage to the drug kingpin has apparently forced her to live a life of further anonymity, even as she was getting offers for stage performances. "It was extremely difficult to get in touch with Mamta. She was very reticent and turned down all offers to perform at our shows. Late last year, we were told by common friends that she was married and she would never perform on stage again," Rasheed Saeed, event organizer from Dubai told The Times of India.

Mamta might have moved to Kenya but she still owns property in Mumbai and is in touch with her family.
