With Arsenal set to officially announce the transfers of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez, the former has already given an interview in his native Germany regarding the move, while opening up on why he decided to sign on the dotted line and shift his base from Spain to England.

After protracted negotiations, Arsenal finally agreed on a fee with Valencia for the centre-back, believed to be somewhere between £30-35 million.

Mustafi revealed he spoke to fellow Germany international Mesut Ozil about life at Arsenal, with the playmaker's encouraging words playing a role in convincing him to sign for the Premier League club.

"I talked to Mesut," Mustafi told Sky Sports Germany. "He told me everything I wanted to know. Everything was positive so I was convinced very fast but it did not take much.

"I've always loved the club Arsenal. I like how they play here. It's not typical English. The game here is more like in Spain and the German national team by keeping the ball on the grass so it was easy to convince me."

What was not easy, however, was agreeing on a fee with Valencia. As the weeks wore on in the negotiations, it looked like the transfer might not go through, with Arsenal linked with several other fallback options – Jonny Evans being one of them. But, having decided to loosen those pursestrings a little bit more, Wenger was finally able to complete a much-needed move.

"For me it's the logical next step," Mustafi added. "Playing in the Champions League, playing with teammates from who you can learn, who have big experience, so it's why I moved there. "For me it's also important to have a coach who has been there for many, many years and takes care of everything so that I only have to worry about my own football.

It is a big club, a giant club with giant history. A club that always plays up there, always in Europe too. And what was also important to me, it's that I've taken a step forward. In my career I've always looked out for taking steps forward."

Arsenal are expected to announce the deals for Mustafi, who also revealed that he has signed a five-year contract, and Lucas, who will join from Deportivo for €20m (£17m), on Monday or Tuesday, with Wenger confirming the two players have already completed their medicals.

"I think they should go through, both of them," Wenger said of the Mustafi and Perez transfers after Arsenal's 3-1 win over Watford. "They had medicals. We have to finish the paperwork and I don't know exactly when we will announce it but look, I think it could be announced at the beginning of the week."
