Popular playback singer and music-composer Shankar Mahadevan celebrates his 49th birthday Thursday, March 3. The four-time National Award winner is known for his association with Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa, who have composed music for more than fifty songs in many languages.

Shankar, who was born in Mumbai to a Tamil family from Palakkad, Kerala, has also worked with many legendaries of the music industry, including Yuvan Shankar Raja, AR Rahman, Ilaiyaraaja, Harris Jayaraj, Vidyasagar, Devi Sri Prasad, G. V. Prakash Kumar, Mani Sharma, D. Imman, S. Thaman and Anirudh Ravichander, among many others. 

He won the prestigious National Award for the songs "Yenna Solla Pogirai" (Kandukondain Kandukondain), Kal Ho Naa Ho (as part of Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy), "Maa" (Taare Zameen Par), "Bolo Na" (Chittagong). He is also a receipient of the Kerala State Film Award for the song "Kalyaana Kacheri" from Mohanlal starrer "Madampi."

Celebrities, including Shaan, Vishal Dadlani, Sujatha Mohan, Shewtha Mohan and many others, have wished the legendary music director and singer on his special day.
