Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has reportedly declined his good friend Karan Johar's ambitious project "Shuddhi."

The 48-year-old was allegedly approached by his friend Johar for "Shuddhi" after the film's original lead, Hrithik Roshan, opted out of the project. The filmmaker is said to have discussed the project and its development with Khan. But the actor after taking his time, declined to associate with the film, reported Deccan Chronicle.

The tabloid further reported that the entire conversation between Khan and Johar with respect to the project took place via e-mail.

The "Chennai Express" actor's rejection comes at a point when reports have hinted at the brewing tension between him and Johar, who were supposedly the best pals at one point.

Cracks in their friendship started circulating after the "Kal Ho Na Ho" director was seen getting pally with Khan's alleged rivals Salman Khan and Aamir Khan in his chat show "Koffee with Karan" (KWK) this season.

To add fuel to the fire, SRK is likely to give a miss to the season finale of Johar's "KWK" making us believe that the strong bond between the two is under definite strain.

Though the two celebs may be going through a difficult phase, it appears that the director has no issue with the actor's wife. Johar was seen having a quality time with Gauri Khan as he tweeted a pictured of them partying on Saturday.

Meanwhile, reports have confirmed Deepika Padukone as the female lead of "Shuddhi", but the male lead is yet to be signed. Ranveer Singh, Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan's name has been doing the rounds post Roshan's ouster from the project.
