"Thor" star Chris Hemsworth is the second Australian and fifth non-American actor to be honoured with the title of "Sexiest Man Alive."
Ever since 1985, People Magazine, a weekly publication by Time Inc, has been listing the names of "Sexiest Men Alive" and this year Hemsworth topped the list.
When Jimmy Kimmel made the announcement on his late-night talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Hemsworth became the 29th person to join the list with Bradley Cooper, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Johnny Depp and John F. Kennedy Jr. among others.
Former "Sexiest Man Alive" title holder Bradley Cooper and Chris Pratt, although still sexy, did not manage to outshine Thor this time round.
However, Hemsworth initially could not believe the news. "I think you've bought me a couple of weeks of bragging rights around the house," he told People Magazine.
"I can just say to [wife Elsa Pataky], 'Now remember, this is what the people think, so I don't need to do the dishes anymore, I don't need to change nappies. I'm above that. I've made it now,'" he added.
The 31-year-old Aussie thinks that strict diet and exercise helped him to win the title. "Then it's pizza, hamburgers, beer, sugary things. Everything I'm not allowed to have!" he said.
Hemsworth began his journey in the world of entertainment through an Australian soap opera "Home and Away" in 2004 and his entry into Hollywood was through J. J. Abrams' movie "Star Trek" in 2009.
He lives with his wife Elsa Pataky and three children - daughter India Rose and twin sons, Tristan and Sasha.
American actor Mel Gibson was the first one to receive the title in 1985 and Scottish actor Sean Connery was the first non-American to be honoured by the magazine in 1989. Meanwhile, Hugh Jackman is the first Australian to be named the "Sexiest Man Alive" in 2008.
