Olivia's confession about carrying on an affair with President Fitz is going to have unexpected consequences.

Thursday's episode saw Olivia confessing to the world about her affair, shortly before Fitz and Mellie were about to go on air and lie about their marriage being stronger than before. Undoubtedly, Fitz was ecstatic, but Mellie was furious that Olivia openly spoke about the President's infidelity, and made the First Lady look like a fool.

Based on the promo for the next week's episode, entitled "Dog-Whistle Politics", Olivia too isn't doing well following her admission. She seems to be losing it, and Fitz too finds out that not everyone is happy with his actions.

Darby Stanchfield, who plays Abby, too confirmed that it won't be smooth sailing for Olivia and Fitz, especially considering that Cyrus is Mellie's counsel.

"There's nothing smooth about what's going forward," she told Variety. "There's still a lot of dimensions to work through in the White House with regards to Olivia and Fitz being now publicly out. How is Mellie going to navigate that and what is she going to do? Think about it — she is the senator of Virginia so that's trouble too. What she can do politically, potentially, can be quite scary, especially with Cyrus in her ear."

Also, it won't be long before fans see Papa Pope out in the open. He gets out of prison just as the public's slut-shaming starts to affect Olivia, making her a vulnerable mess.

The official synopsis of the episode reads:

"Eager to get answers, Jake unexpectedly crosses paths with someone he thought he'd never see again. Meanwhile, Huck and Quinn recruit a familiar face to help smooth over the media storm surrounding Olivia, and Fitz quickly finds out the true cost of mercy when he discovers not everyone fully supports his actions."

"Dog-Whistle Politics" will be aired Thursday, 15 October at 9 pm on ABC.
