Two Indians are among the 107 Haj pilgrims killed in Saudi Arabia after a crane toppled over at the Grand Mosque on Friday.

Saudi Arabia's Civil Defence authority said that all the dead and injured pilgrims have been taken to the hospital. At least 238 injured have bee admitted to various hospitals in Mecca.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement: "We have been informed that two Indians have been killed in the unfortunate incident. We have received reports that 15 Indians have been injured and are being assisted in various hospitals. Our officials from the Indian consulate in Jeddah are monitoring the situation."

A statement by a spokesman for the administration of the mosques in Mecca and Medina said the crane smashed into the part of the Grand Mosque where worshippers circle the Kaaba - the black-clad cube towards which the world's 1.6 billion Muslims face to pray.

At least 87 Haj pilgrims were killed after a massive construction crane collapsed through the roof of the Grand Mosque in Mecca on Friday.

According to BBC, the death toll has climed to 87, while over 184 people have been injured. Saudi social media reports claimed that the incident took place at around 5.30 pm (local time).

The construction crane crashed through the roof due to heavy winds, Saudi news portal Sabq reported citing local officials. Mecca in recent days has been witnessing heavy rains and stormy weather.

The crane was part of the extensive work that was being under taken at the Grand mosque ahead of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, one of the most revered sites in Islam.

Mecca would be hosting over 3 million haj pilgrims from across the world starting 21 September.

Governor of the Makkah region, the capital of which is Mecca, Prince Khalid al-Faisal has ordered an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident, Russia Today reported.

Eyewitnesses claimed that at least 40 ambulances were on the spot. The nationalities of the injured has been released yet.

Reports on social media but claimed that among the injured were 9 Indians, 6 Malaysians, 20 Indonesians among the injured. One of the dead has been identified as an Indonesian national. All injured are at Aiyad and An-Nur hospital.(via @ashren)

Dozens of images of injured and dead pilgrims soaked in blood is being circulated on social media. 

A video posted online by a Haj pilgrim shows the moment the massive construction crane crashed on the mosque. Pilgrims could be heard chanting "La ilaha illallah" which means there is no god but Allah.
