Sarkar has become the third movie of Vijay to breach the $1 million mark in the US after Mersal and Theri. The Tamil movie has achieved this feat on Tuesday, November 20. He is the only actor after Rajinikanth to have registered three films in the club.
The early estimation coming from the trade says that Sarkar has estimated to have raked in over $2,000 from 24+ locations. Thus becoming the second Tamil movie in 2018 to enter $1-million club in the US after Rajinikanth's Kaala.
The movie saw the light of the day on November 5 in the US with premieres in over 150 locations. The Vijay-starrer grossed a record-breaking $335,836 and added $169,986 on its first day to take its total tally to $505,822.
In the following days, the collections of Sarkar saw a dip, sending fears among the trade that Sarkar might fail to pull the audience to theatres due to mixed reviews. Surprisingly, the business saw a recovery during the weekend and the AR Murugadoss' creation ended up doing a stupendous $917,906 in its extended first weekend.
However, the business of Sarkar started declining thereafter as it struggled to reach $1 million. Looking at the pace, the Sun Pictures-produced movie, which has Keerthy Suresh and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in the female leads, is unlikely to beat Vijay's previous records of Mersal, which made $1,830,866 in its lifetime, and Theri that ended its total collection at $1,128,975.
