Samsung launched the company's proprietary Tizen OS powered smartwatch Gear S2 series in India on Thursday, 21 January.

It will reportedly be made available in two variants -- Gear S2 and S2 Classic edition. Both the models feature almost same internal hardware such as Tizen OS, 1.0GHz dual-core CPU, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage and a 250 mAh battery that can keep the device running for two to three days under mixed usage.

The key difference between Gear S2 and S2 Classic is that the former comes in dark gray case with a dark gray band and silver case with a white band, whereas the latter ships with black case having leather band. Both the models are compatible with non-Samsung smartphones with 4.4 KitKat OS (or later) and 1.5GB RAM. They will also soon be made compatible with Apple iPhones.

Besides the Gear S2 series, Samsung also launched the Oculus Gear VR. It offers 360 degree cinematic experience when connected to smartphones via micro-USB port. It is said to be compatible with top-end flagship phablets Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge+.

Gear S2 series and Gear VR availability and price details:

The company has confirmed that only Gear S2 and S2 Classic edition will be  made available across India on both online and offline starting Thursday for Rs. 24,300 and Rs. 25,800, respectively.

On the other hand, the Samsung-Oculus Gear VR can be bought online exclusively on Flipkart as well as some select Tata owned Croma and Reliance Digital brick-and-mortar stores for Rs. 8,200.
