Smartphone leader Samsung on Friday launched an entry level Android based handset Galaxy Star in India for ₹5240.

Samsung Galaxy Star sports 2.9-inch TFT QVGA screen with 320x240p display resolutions and runs on the Android mobile OS v4.1 Jelly Bean powered by a 1GHz single-core Cortex-A5 processor with 512MB RAM and internal memory of 4GB which can be further expanded up to 32GB through microSD card.

"Galaxy Star is a device that provides superior value to consumers based on its features, intuitive performance and design features. We want more and more feature phone users to upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy Star," said Samsung Mobile Country head Vineet Taneja at the ;aunch event.  

Even though the company has priced the Galaxy Star ₹5,240, the same smartphone can be purchased for ₹4,990 at online store Flipkart.com.

The new Galaxy Star will take on the Nokia's affordable Asha series smartphones as well as the Micromax, Karbonn, Lava Mobiles and other domestic manufacurers who are leading the low-cost smartphone segment in the market.
