The much anticipated Samsung Galaxy S5 which is rumoured to debut in early 2014 will reportedly boast of a flat display panel and not a flexible screen as previously thought.

Media house, The Korea Herald citing industry sources has claimed that Samsung has dropped the idea of implementing flexible screens in its forthcoming 2014 flagship smartphone Galaxy S5, owing to under-production of curved screen panels.

Currently, Samsung's display plant is capable of manufacturing 8,000 flexible display sheets in a month, which is only enough to use in 500,000 smartphones, a mere 30-percent yield that is certain to become an impediment during supply of flagship handset to major global markets. Hence, the company has decided to go with flat display panel for Galaxy S5 and bring out a new Galaxy variant with flexible screen later next year, reported the website.

While the change in display panel material raises questions about the rumoured 2K (2560x1440p) display resolutions, one can expect the upcoming Samsung marquee phone to boast of 64-bit architecture chipset, 3G RAM (or more), 16.0-megapixel ISOCELL technology based main camera with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and a massive battery, probably with 4000 mAh capacity.
