Earlier this month, Samsung unveiled the much-anticipated Galaxy Note 4at the IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin) 2014 in Germany.

Despite featuring some high-end specifications, it received a little lukewarm response from tech pundits for its modest upgrade over its predecessor Galaxy Note 3.

The new fourth generation Galaxy Note phablet comes with value-added features like finger-print sensor (at home button), built-in heart rate monitor and a small bump in camera specifications.

Apart from these attributes, there are a few more features that are likely to enhance user experience, which include super-sensitive AMOLED quad-HD display, enhanced S-Pen features (for easy navigation on big-screen), privacy mode and camera app short-cut.

Here is brief description of top value-added features of Samsung Galaxy Note 4:

Design and Build quality:

On the outlook, Galaxy Note 4's screen size resembles its predecessor, but on a closer look, the new phablet is clad with metal chassis around the edges and it has shed the faux leather, which is seen in Galaxy Note 3 cover, with polycarbonate shell, making it look more premium and sturdy to hold in the hand.

Display:

Samsung's new flagship phablet flaunts a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display having a staggering pixel density of 515 ppi (pixels per inch).

It has to be noted that Quad-HD is four times the normal HD screen resolution and the usage of AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) as the display material, makes the Galaxy Note 4, despite having high-resolution screen use less power compared to other conventional LCD based smartphones.

Camera features:

Galaxy Note 4 houses a 16.0-megapixel camera with auto-focus and smart OIS (Optimised Image Stabilisation), HDR (Rich tone), Selective Focus, Rear-cam Selfie, Beauty face, Virtual Tour Shot, Shot & More, Dual Camera.

On the front side, it comes packed with a 3.7-megapixel snapper with F1.0 aperture with Wide selfie feature and many more value-added photography enriching apps.

Enhanced S-Pen features:

Galaxy Note 4 comes with much improved S Pen, which offers rich digital handwriting experience through enhanced pressure sensitivity and feature stylus-optimised functions such as - Air Command functionality along with other intuitive features such as Action Memo, Screen Write, Image Clip, S Note, Snap Note and Direct Pen Input that allow users to create and collect content with ease.

Photo Note & Smart Select:

To make S Pen more user-friendly, Samsung has incorporated natural brush effect that closely simulates like writing on paper using a fountain or calligraphy pen.

The new Photo Note feature enables user to instantly convert analog file to digital. He/She can even edit notes, change colors, and put in additional memos on the photo with S Pen easily.

On the other hand, the new Smart Select feature enables users to easily piece together content from different origins, and share it with ease.

Super-fast battery charging:

One of the main concerns among Android smartphone owners is that despite charging the devices overnight, they get drained out before they could hit the sack in the night (and some before evening), this problem escalates with the increase in the device's display size and resolution specifications.

Now, we know Galaxy Note 4 comes with 5.7-inch 2K resolution display and many might wonder, whether the 3,220mAh Li-Ion battery is enough to keep the phone running for longer time. Yes, says the company.

Samsung claims that new Ultra-power saving mode will give power back-up longer than other conventional smartphones and has also thrown in another value-added feature - 'Adaptive Fast Charging & Quick Charging 2.0' technology, which can charge Galaxy Note 4 battery from zero to 50% capacity in 30 minutes.

Heart-rate monitor, UV, SPO2, Finger-print sensors:

When Samsung introduced the Galaxy S5 (in February, 2014) with Heart-rate monitor (below rear-camera module), many thought this feature as a gimmick rather a necessary feature in a smartphone; however, health conscious users praised the company for incorporating it.

In that order, Samsung has introduced another value-added feature UV sensor, which gives the details on Sun's UV rays intensity and helps users avoid outdoor activity for a time being.

[Note: the UV sensor too is placed below the rear-camera; users just need to take it out in the Sun to measure the ultraviolet radiation]

Another interesting value-added feature is the SpO2 sensor, this non-invasive technology will measure the user's blood oxygen saturation level, and more specifically it calculates the haemoglobin, a protein in blood that carries oxygen.

Like Samsung Galaxy S5, the bigger flagship model too comes with finger-print sensor for secure unlocking of the device.

Processor:

In 2013, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (in India) shipped with in-house built Exynos Octa-core processor (packs two quad-cores-1.6GHz and 1.9GHz) with Mali T628 MP GPU. And in developed markets of Europe, North America and select South-East Asian regions, Galaxy Note 3 was made available with 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series chipset with Adreno 330 graphics engine.

This year, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 comes packed with new Qualcomm Snapdragon 805-series CPU, which can clock a staggering speed of 2.7GHz and comes with advanced 4G (LTE Cat 4 150/50Mbps)/ 4G (LTE Cat 6 300/50Mbps) modems (in select markets and carriers only).

The second Galaxy Note 4 variant ships (mostly bound for emerging countries like India and other South Asian and African countries) with an Exynos 5,433 series Octa-core CPU (1.9GHz quad-core + 1.3GHz quad-core +ARM Mali T760 GPU).
