Hyderabad based Celkon Mobiles on 8 May launched the affordable phablet A119Q Signature HD in India, further intensifying the price war among domestic and MNC companies.

Celkon's new smartphone packs better features than Micromax's most popular smartphone A116 Canvas HD, raising the bar above its Indian counterparts. But it remains to be seen if Indian brand A119Q Signature HD can match upto the MNC Samsung Galaxy Grand.

Here is the brief comparison of main specs between Samsung Galaxy Grand and Celkon A119Q Signature HD:

Display:

Samsung's Galaxy Grand sports a 5.0-inch LCD display with 480x800p display resolution and a paltry 187 ppi (pixels per inch) pixel density. Celkon A119Q Signature HD as the name suggest sports a 5.0-inch screen with an impressive high-definition 1280x720p display close to 294 ppi.

Processor:

Galaxy Grand sports an 8.0-megapixel main camera with auto-focus and LED flash support with Full HD video recording capability and a 2.0-megapixel front facing camera. On the other hand, Celkon smartphone houses a much impressive 12.0-megapixel rear-side camera with flash support and goes a notch up with the 3.0-megapixel camera on the front.

Mobile Operating System:

In terms of mobile OS, both Galaxy Grand and A119Q Signature HD run on the same Android mobile OS Jelly Bean. But, it has to be noted that the Samsung smartphone runs on v4.1.2 Jelly Bean (v4.2 update is awaited), whereas Zen smartphone runs on the latest Android OS version 4.2.1 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box.

In terms storage, RAM, battery capacity and network connectivity features, both smartphones have similar features with negligible differences.

MNC brand Galaxy Grand is priced ₹19,500, whereas Indian made A119Q Signature HD holds a price-tag of ₹12,499, almost ₹7000 less than its rival.

Adding woes to local manufacturers, as a tactical measure to attract thrift middle class buyers, Samsung has begun an innovative TV ad campaign to promote Galaxy Grand and other Galaxy devices with special incentives to attract middle-class buyers with a slew of initiatives such as EMI (Easy Monthly Installment) with zero percent interest rate and free flip covers with each smartphone.
