The maker of 'world's most expensive car' is certainly one of the coveted tags that any luxury car maker would want to retain for a long period of time. British luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce revealed bespoke special model christened Sweptail last year as world's most expensive new car. Priced at around Rs 84 crore, Rolls-Royce Sweptail was expected to retain the accolade for a really long time.

It looks like Italian sports car company Pagani Automobili is in no mood to let Rolls-Royce keep the title. The founder of Pagani Automobili, Horacio Pagani, had recently driven Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The ultra-rare sports car is priced at 15 million euros and that translates to Rs 121 crore. Yes, it is the latest world's most expensive new car.

Pagani revealed the Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta way back in 2017 at Pebble Beach, California. It has been developed as a present to the company's founder, Horacio Pagani for his 60th birthday as well as to commemorate the 18th anniversary of the Zonda.

Pagani has capped the production to just three units with one unit retained for Horacio Pagani's personal collection. Before you think of buying remaining two units (if you have ultra-deep pockets), both have been sold already. The owner identity is under wraps.

Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta's unique exterior design treatment is what makes it different from other Zondas. As the name suggests, the rare sports car features a Barchetta body style and rear wheel covers inspired by group C race cars. The Zonda HP Barchetta also has a rear spoiler, air intakes and rear lights taken from the 760 series cars.

Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta draws power from a 7.3-litre Mercedes-Benz V12 engine that produces 790hp of power and 850Nm of torque. The number makes it most powerful road-legal Zonda ever produced. The mill is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, along with a mechanical locking diff and rear-wheel-drive.

The Zonda HP Barchetta and Huayra BC shares seats and suspension. One of the interesting and quirky bits about the car has different colour inlays with the wheels at the left having gold and the wheels at the right having blue.
