Miss World, one of the oldest beauty pageants created in the United Kingdom in 1951, has crowned South African beauty Rolene Strauss as Miss World 2014.

In the grand event, which took place in London, UK, Strauss beat 124 contestants to emerge as the winner. 

Miss Hungary Edina Kulcsar was selected as the runner-up, while Miss United States Elizabeth Safrit was third, followed by Miss Australia Courtney Thorpe and Miss England Carina Tyrrell.

Rolene Strauss - Miss World 2014

The fourth-year-medical student, aged 22, is the second South African woman to win the Miss World title after Anneline Kriel in 1974. She is currently enrolled at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein.

Megan Young - Miss World 2013

The Filipino American actress, Megan Young, aged 24, was the first Filipino to win Miss World title and also won the Continental Queen of Beauty title as Miss World Asia in 2013. She was the highest ranked participant in Asian region.

Yu Wenxia - Miss World 2012

Yu Wenxia, 25, was the second Chinese beauty queen to win the Miss World title in 2012, and was also named Miss Talent following her performance of Chinese folk song during the finale of the grand event.

Ivian Sarcos - Miss World 2011

A diplomacy student, Ivian Sarcos, 25, was the sixth Venezuelan beauty to win the prestigious title in the year 2011. Sarcos, an orphan was raised by nuns, and was planning to become a nun before she found her passion in fashion world.

Alexandria Mills - Miss World 2010

Alexandria Mills, 22, was the third Miss World pageant titleholder from the US and got married to Franklin Hibbs on 2 November 2012.

Kaiane Aldorino - Miss World 2009

Kaine Aldorino, 28, was the first Gibraltarian model to win the beauty pageant. 

Ksenia Sukhinova - Miss World 2008

Russia beauty, Ksenia Sukhinova, aged 27, defeated 108 contestants during the Miss World competition in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2008. India's Parvathy Omanakuttan was selected as the first runner-up.

Zhang Zilin - Miss World 2007

The Chinese beauty was the first model to win the Miss World title from East Asia. The Miss World 2007, Zhang Zilin, 30, is a scholar and an athlete and made her acting debut in "The Underdog Knight 2" (2011).

Taťána Kuchařová - Miss World 2006  

The Czech beauty, Taťána Kuchařová, 26, was the first woman from Czech Republic to win the Miss World title in 2006, beating 103 contestants. She was also selected as the Global Women Leader of World Network of Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs (WNYLE) in 2013.

Unnur Birna Vilhjálmsdóttir - Miss World 2005

The Icelandic model, Unnur Birna, aged 30, won the Miss World title in 2005. Meanwhile, her mother Unnur Steinsson was a Miss World finalist in 1983.

María Julia Mantilla - Miss World 2004

The Peruvian model turned actress, María Julia Mantilla, 30, was the second woman from Peru to win the Miss World title. After being crowned as the winner, she carried out various fund raising events for charitable organisations.
