Riverdale is headed for its third instalment and one of its lead actors is departing, albeit just for one episode.

K J Apa, who plays Archie Andrews in the teen-drama, will be seen playing younger version of his onscreen father, Fred (Luke Perry). Fielding questions about season 3 at the Television Critics Association summer tour, Perry said how eager he was to see the young actor play his role in the show as he's a "great mimic."

Madchen Amick, who plays Alice Cooper, said that Lili Reinhart has been watching a lot of Twin Peaks (in which Amick plays Shelly Johnson) to ace her performance of young Alice. It's going to be interesting to watch these talented kids play different roles. But the challenge is they'd have to work a lot on body language and expressions to make the portrayals look as smooth as possible.

In other news, there's been a lot of chatter around Netflix's The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and how it would be a spin-off show of Riverdale. But the idea appears to be a bit far-fetched at the moment.

Elaborating on it, executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said the team was focussing on how to get two shows their own identities first and "own set of rules." But, he didn't deny the possibility of another spin-off. "We're still early on in the process and it will be very different from Riverdale," he added.

Meanwhile, a lot has been said and discussed about the upcoming season of Riverdale and the fans seem to be heartbroken to have learned that Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) and Archie may not be dating any longer.

Talking to Seventeen, Apa confirmed the breakup the characters would be going through adding that his serving time in prison will have a lot to do with his fractured relationships.

"There's a confrontation between the two of them where she wants to visit him in prison and he doesn't want her to do that just because that environment isn't best suited for someone like Veronica. Also, because of the distance, it might shake things up," the magazine quoted him as saying.

Riverdale Season 3 is scheduled to air October 10 on The CW.
