The schedule for the football matches, both men and women, in the Rio 2016 Olympics, has been released by FIFA. The Maracana Stadium will host the finals for both the men's and women's tournaments.

The 78,000-capacity Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro hosted the men's FIFA World Cup final last year as well, where Germany got past Argentina.

The men's football final is scheduled to take place on 20 August, 2016, while the women's football final is scheduled to take a place a day prior to it.

Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Manaus, Salvador and Sao Paulo hav been chosen as the other cities to host the tournaments for both the categories. The men's tournament is set to kick-off on 4 August next year, while the women's tournament will commence a day prior to it.

Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Portugal, Fiji, Mexico and Honduras constitute the nine teams so far that will be participating in the men's competition.

There will be 16 teams in the men's category, and the rest of the seven teams will be selected after the 2016 AFC U-23 Championship, 2015 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, and the 2016 CONCACAF-CONMEBOL play-off.

A total of 12 teams will be participating in the women's category, and Brazil, Colombia, Germany, France, South Africa and Zimbabwe, have qualified so far.

The rest of the six teams will be selected after the 2015–16 AFC Olympic Qualifying Tournament, the 2016 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship, the 2015 OFC Olympic Qualifying Tournament and the 2016 UEFA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
