Both the Indian women archers -- Deepika Kumari and Bombayla Devi -- crashed out of the Rio 2016 Olympics on Thursday as they couldn't cope with the challenge from their respective opponents in the pre-quarters. While Deepika lost to Chinese Taipei's Tan Ya-Ting, Bombayla lost to Mexico's Alejandra Valencia in the women's individual archery event.

Deepika crashed out within the first three sets of the women's individual archery event as she couldn't just match up to the skills and composure of Tan Ya-Ting.

The archer from Chinese Taipei started the set with a bull's eye and that set the tone of the duel for Tan. She continued her momentum of hitting perfect bull's eyes -- one after another -- to make it a perfect day for herself.

Deepika, 22, did try her best as none of her shots went below the eight-point mark, but it was just not the Indian archer's day. As compared to Tan's six bulls-eyes over the first three sets, Deepika could manage to hit the bulls eye on just one occasion.

Bombayla, meanwhile, who made herself enter the medal contention after a consistent performance in the Olympics 2016, put up a good fight, but she couldn't reign supreme this time around. The 31-year-old girl from Manipur could only manage two bulls-eyes, while Mexican archer Valencia managed four of them over four rounds.

Bombayla won the second set after losing the first one, but Valencia came back strongly to take home the honours from the next two sets and also comfortably enter the quarterfinals of the event.

The only hope for India to get a medal from archery in Rio 2016 now depends on the performance of male archer Atanu Das, who will be competing in the individual men's pre-quarters event on Friday.
