Season three of "Revenge" ended on Sunday with a controversial twist where Aiden was murdered, Emily chose not to kill Victoria when she had the opportunity and Conrad is killed by a revenge-crazed David.

Emily's father David is alive and he too appears to be as obsessed with revenge as his daughter. Life in the Hamptons is also never going to be the same again as both Emily and Victoria are "going to have to reckon with what they've done in his name over the last 20 years," showrunner Sunil Nayar told TVLine.

David's return is going to be a major highlight of season four as the person who has just returned is a changed man.

"The audience knows what he did to Conrad, they know what a raw act of vengeance it was. So the David that's eventually going to come back to town isn't going to be the David that the people in the Hamptons know, but the viewers have seen him and know what he's capable of," Nayar added.

From the looks of it, Conrad is really dead as the showrunner wanted to give Emily some sort of victory at the end of the episode. But at the same time, she had a setback as well. The finale saw the death of the one person Emily loved the most – Aiden.

Emily's one true love died at the hands of Victoria, who herself was institutionalized at the end of the episode.

On his decision to kill Aiden, Nayar said that the central theme of the show is revenge, and it's lead, Emily, cannot be without revenge.

"We thought the best thing to do is make her understand what revenge is in a very different way," he told E!Online.

"It's one thing when you are a young girl and you lose your father and you have this idealistic sense of who he was and therefore you might idealize the sense of what you have to do to get him justice, but when you lose the man that you love, the love of your life with whom you plan on spending your life at the hand of the woman you hate more than anybody, it's a much more mature kind of anger that I think will inform how Emily will go about doing what she does in season four differently."

The battle between Emily and Victoria is going to continue in season four of the show. ABC renewed "Revenge" last week, but an air date has not been announced yet.
