French carmaker Renault is gearing up for the launch of the automated manual transmission (AMT) variant of its popular entry-level car, the Kwid. The Kwid has given a significant boost to Renault in India with its phenomenal sales numbers and the company recently increased the fervour with the addition of a 1.0 litre variant of the model. However, the game in the entry-level hatchback segment is set to see more action soon.

After introducing the Kwid 1.0 litre models in the Indian market, Renault has now rolled their sleeves up to challenge the dominance of the Alto K10 AMT, with its Kwid AMT. Renault has already started the teaser campaign for the Kwid AMT, which is expected to be launched in the coming days. Running up to the launch, rumour mills have been active for the past couple of days to spill the beans on what is in store with the new Kwid AMT.  Here are all the details that we have known so far about the Kwid AMT.

Launch date and bookings
Renault is expected to launch the Kwid AMT in the second week of November. While there is still a lot of confusion about the exact launch date of the new avatar of the model, latest reports say that the launch has been scheduled to take place on November 9. Bookings for the Kwid AMT are open in the country across the dealership centres of Renault for a token amount of Rs 10,000.

What to expect
In the AMT version, the Kwid will remain largely in its current form both inside and outside, except for minor tweaks to accommodate the AMT box. The Kwid is available with two engine options — the 800cc variant and the 1.0 litre model. Only the 1.0 litre variant of the Kwid is expected to get the AMT box, and that too in the top-end trim of the model — the RxT (O) variant, which will get a driver-side airbag as standard.

A noticeable change in the Kwid AMT will be the rotary gear shifter that is mounted on the dashboard. The rotary gear shifter will let the user choose between neutral, drive and reverse modes. The AMT unit in the Kwid will be called Easy-R, just like the Duster AMT, and will continue to feature Touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, USB, Bluetooth audio streaming and aux, remote keyless entry with central locking, front power windows, foldable backrest and passenger-side ORVMs.

Engine
The Kwid AMT will get the 1.0 litre engine that can churn out 67hp of power and 91Nm of torque.

Price
To be pitted against Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 AMT, the Kwid AMT is expected to get a price tag starting at Rs 4.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
