If the emerging reports are anything to go by, the launch date of Renault Kwid's 1.0-litre version has almost been confirmed. While Renault has confirmed that the new powerful variant of its hot selling model will make its market entry in August, the exact launch details were not revealed.

Now, a CarandBike report notes that Kwid will be launched towards the end of August. Renault had showcased the upcoming version at the Auto Expo 2016 and it was also caught on camera while undergoing tests. In terms of changes, the main update is under the hood.

While the current Kwid is powered by a 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor tuned to churn out 53bhp at 5,678rpm and a peak torque of 72Nm at 4,386rpm, the new avatar of the hatchback will come with a 1,000cc petrol unit expected to develop over 65bhp mated to five-speed manual transmission.

An automated manual transmission (AMT) avatar of the Kwid is also in the pipeline. The hatchback is also expected to have safety features like dual Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) airbags and anti-lock braking system.

Renault currently offers an optional single airbag in the top-end RxT variant of Kwid.

Kwid, which made its market debut in September 2015, has become an instant hit and raked in over 1.5 lakh bookings. Renault is working to bring down Kwid's waiting period from current three months to one month.
