Reliance Jio which has currently become the talk of the town due to its new Happy New year offer that offers as much as 1GB of free 4G LTE data and free unlimited voice calls till March 2017, is now rumoured to come out with a new feature called 'Locate My device' that is said to make finding of lost devices comparatively easy. Detecting lost devices would be done with GPS.

Now, as per a TelecomTalk report that claims to quote trusted internal sources, Locate My Device functionality would be made live shortly and once official, this feature is rumoured to offer users a customised map which is said to contain all details with respect to location of the lost device (with the Jio SIM). A List View option would also be made available to users to keep track of their devices in real-time.

However, at this point in time, there are also rumours regarding the availability of the Locate My Device functionality to Jio devices even other than the LYF smartphones. Nonetheless, what is imperative at this stage is that the device location tracker feature should do users a world of good considering the fact that smartphone users are getting more and more absent-minded in recent times and have shown a strong tendency to even lose track of flagship smartphones procured by shelling out a premium.

Finally, once the Locate My Device security feature goes live, users should be able to access the functionality from the official Reliance Jio portal by logging in to their accounts. As per TelecomTalk, Locate My device would appear as a separate tab within user accounts. More information on the rumoured Reliance Jio security feature is expected shortly.

In related Reliance Jio news, telecom experts and reputed analysts expect the company's recent Happy New year offer to go beyond the March 31 2017 cut-off date. Analysts are of the opinion that the aggressive competition in the 4G sector currently, between reliance Jio and incumbent telcos, would force the former to think about an extension of free 4G offerings.
