Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 made the headlines in India even though it was launched in China starting at ¥999 on Thursday. One of the biggest highlights of the phone was its 48MP rear camera paired with a 5MP secondary sensor, raising eyebrows among the mobile photographers' community in India. While there are no indications of the Redmi Note 7 coming to India, another rival brand and Oppo's former subsidiary, Realme has revealed plans for a 40MP camera phone for Indian consumers.

2018 was a great year for Realme, which made its presence felt in the sub-Rs 20,000 price range. If the latest report is any indication, the company is upping the ante on its efforts to make a larger impact in the mid-range segment. Speaking to Indian Express, Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth said the company is working on a 48MP camera phone.

While there are no further details on whether it will sport a dual camera setup like the one on Redmi Note 7, Sheth said there are no plans of launching smartphones with triple cameras or hole in the screen for the front camera, which has allowed some brands to achieve the highest screen to body ratio.

The report further revealed that the Realme 2 and Realme 2 Pro successor, Realme 3 will be announced sometime in the first quarter of 2019. Without revealing any specs or features about the Realme 3, the report doesn't clarify which smartphone will carry the 48MP camera.

Another interesting titbit from Sheth's interview confirmed the arrival of Android 9.0 Pie update for Realme 2 Pro and Realme U1 in the first quarter of 2019, while Realme 2 and C1 will get the update in Q2 2019.
