Manchester United are desperate to bolster their squad in this ongoing summer transfer window. Louis van Gaal has managed to secure the signing of Memphis Depay last month. After that, they have failed to rope in any of their summer targets.

Van Gaal has been pursuing Nicolas Otamendi for quite some time now and according to reports, the player has come to an agreement over a deal to move to Old Trafford this summer. As a result, Real Madrid have stopped pursuing this Argentine defender, who featured in the Copa America 2015 for the La Albiceleste side.

If Sergio Ramos leaves Bernabeu this summer, then Benitez will have to look for a replacement. The Spanish giants were also eyeing Otamendi, but they gave up on him reports Mirror.co.uk. Instead, they have switched their interest to Ezequiel Garay who is likely to be an ideal replacement for Ramos.

Meanwhile, Van Gaal and co are apparently negotiating with Valencia over a possible deal to buy Otamendi this summer. But Valencia are reluctant to let him go for anything less than £35 million. If United manage to sign both Ramos and Otamendi in this ongoing transfer window then would give their side a major boost as they will have a formidable defence line then.

On the other hand, the Red Devils are preparing to launch a second bid for Ramos after Real Madrid rejected their first bid of £28 million for the star defender. United management have made it clear that David de Gea will not be allowed to leave Old Trafford if Ramos deal is not agreed. But as of now, Otamendi seems to be a more realistic target.
