After getting a flying start at the box office, Sivakarthikeyan's "Rajini Murugan" has continued to perform well even on the weekdays in Tamil Nadu.

Trade tracker Sreedhar Pillai has confirmed the news and tweeted: "Mid Week Box-Office #RajiniMurugan continues its stranglehold on TN B-O. Working big time with all class audiences as it is a fun flick. (sic)"

The highlight of the success story is "Rajini Murugan" is pulling all sections of the audience into theatres. The Tamil movie is being enjoyed not only by mass but also by audience that look for class in a film. This has worked in favour of the film big time at the box office.

The Tamil film had garnered fairly positive reviews and had a fantastic opening worldwide. It collected Rs 19.5 crore in its first weekend in Tamil Nadu and around Rs 6.7 crore from overseas centres in the four-day weekend.

It released on 14 January along with Sasikumar's "Tharai Thappattai", Vishal's "Kathakali" and Udhayanidhi Stalin's "Gethu". Among the four Pongal releases, "Rajini Murugan" has turned out to be the crowd puller, thus becoming the first hit at the box office in 2016.

As a result, the screen count has started increasing for "Rajini Murugan". Many theatres have replaced non-performing films with the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer. Trade tracker Kannan has tweeted: "#RajiniMurugan gets all main screens across TN from Friday & also shows getting increased in Plexes. 2016's 1st hit! (sic)"

The movie is expected to have a good run in theatres as no big film is releasing this weekend. However, Sundar C directorial "Aranmanai 2" and Madhavan's "Irudhi Suttru" are hitting the screens next week, and this could have some impact on "Rajini Murugan".

"Rajini Murugan" is a comedy-drama written and directed by Ponram. Keerthy Suresh plays the female lead in the film, which has Rajkiran and Samuthirakani in key roles.
