Shah Rukh Khan's non-stop work schedule is taking a toll on his health. It's been over a year since his knee injury left him in pain, but he isn't the one to stop.

Even though he has been advised rest by his doctors, Khan hardly ever takes a break from work. He's an insomniac and a workaholic; just the two things that are as good as poison for his knee right now.

At the Raees trailer launch, Khan was visibly in pain and answered questions while clutching to his left knee. He was wearing a knee cap.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sanjay Desai, a senior orthopaedic surgeon at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital, told Mumbai Mirror that the superstar was administered painkillers and injections five months ago, but the condition has worsened with time because of the repeated injuries he has suffered.

"The chondral fissure of the patella in Mr Khan's knee has completely worn out and repairing it is difficult and will take a lot of time," the daily quoted the doctor as saying. Khan has been strictly advised to wear his metallic knee cap and instructed not to perform action sequences.

Is there a chance Raees could be Khan's last out-and-out action film? Only time will tell if he is able to recover completely from the nagging knee problem. "Since he will continue to shoot, we will perform another arthroscopic surgery on him to clean up the damaged part after 10 months. I've advised him rest," the doctor added.

Anushka Sharma, who recently wrapped up an outdoor schedule with Khan for Imtiaz Ali's film, said the actor is relentless and at times unnecessarily excited about scenes, which worsens his pain. Even while he was shooting for Fan, there were scenes where Khan had to run and jump off buildings. Those sequences affected his knee health quite a bit.
