At least eight children were killed and many were seriously injured after a school bus fell into a drain at Muhawa village near Attari in Amritsar, Punjab on Tuesday afternoon. Reports state that three boys and two girls are dead. 

Reports state that more than 50 nursery school children were on board the bus when the accident took place. Although many children have been taken out of the drain, many of them are still missing. 

All the children onboard the bus were 7 and 14 years of age and belong to the nearby villages of Tibbi, Muhawa and Neshta.

The children in the school bus were students of MKD DAV Public School at Neshta village. The injured children were immediately rushed to Arora Hospital in Amritsar. Out of the injured, 10 children are in a critical condition and have been admitted to the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar.

Reports state that the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the bus and it swerved into the drain. Search and rescue operations are underway.
