There's nearly a five month wait before "Pretty Little Liars" returns for the second half of season 6, and a new trailer has only piqued fans' curiosity.

While the trailer starts off bright, with the girls back in Rosewood, it soon turns dark, hinting that the girls aren't as safe as they thought they were. Although they left Rosewood to get away from all the drama, something happens that will force them to come back to town.

And in the five years they have been away, a lot has changed in their lives, something they aren't willing to tell the others.

"They're all in very different places," executive producer Marlene King told E! about the next half of season 6. "I don't want to give you all the answers because that's part of the fun of the story when we find them. They're still friends, but like what happens after you get out of college, you don't get to see your friends all the time. So there's a reason they have to come back to town and they're bringing some secrets back with them, too."

As for where everyone is after the time-jump, Hanna appears to be engaged. But it is not immediately known if Caleb is her fiancé. Emily did not have a wonderful college experience, as in the trailer she is heard telling Toby that "college isn't what I thought it was going to be."

Not much information is available on Spencer and Aria, but the trailer shows that Ezra is still a part of her life.

As for Alison, she stayed behind in Rosewood to take care of her sister Charlotte. Alison is also married, and has changed in the five years the Liars have been away.

King told MTV in a recent interview that Alison stayed behind because she wanted to establish a connection with Charlotte. "Yes. That's why she stays behind. She said, "I've always wanted to get out of Rosewood, but now it's the only place I want to be." And it's because she wants to take care of Charlotte and be the family to Charlotte that she never had. And I do think Ali has probably changed the most when we come back in five years."

"Pretty Little Liars" will return to ABC Family in January.
