Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has joined newly-promoted side Queens Park Rangers on a free transfer.

"QPR have completed the signing of Rio Ferdinand on a free transfer," read a statement in the Hoops official website.

The 35-year-old defender, who has penned a one-year deal with the West London club, claims that he chose to sign for the Hoops and remain in the Premier League despite getting a lot of lucrative offers from other clubs.

"I had a lot of offers from all over the world – some in places with a better climate than here. But the draw for me was to play in the Premier League and back here where it all started," Ferdinand told QPR's official website.

"It's not about money – I had loads of more lucrative offers available to me. I still feel I've got something to offer and I'm excited about helping this club cement its place in the Premier League."

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have officially announced the capture of Daryl Janmaat from Feyenoord for an undisclosed transfer fee.

The 24-year-old right-back, who was impressive for Netherlands in the 2014 World Cup, has put to paper a six year deal.

"Newcastle United have completed the signing of Netherlands World Cup star Daryl Janmaat. The 24-year-old right-back arrives from Feyenoord for an undisclosed fee and has put pen to paper on a six-year deal at St. James' Park," read a statement in the club's official website.

Janmaat, who has been signed as a replacement for the departed Mathieu Debuchy, who has joined Arsenal, expressed his delight at having signed for the Magpies.

"This is a fantastic club, with a big history and a great stadium. I have also been told all about how great the fans are," Janmaat told Newcastle's official website.

"This is the perfect move for me, and I am really looking forward to being with the team and getting started here at Newcastle. I think we are going to have a great season."

Elsewhere, West Ham have announced the signing of Enner Valencia from Mexican side Pachuca for an undisclosed transfer fee.

However, the transfer is still subject to the Ecuador international being granted a work permit in England.

"West Ham United are delighted to announce that exciting Ecuador international forward Enner Valencia will become the Club's fifth summer signing, subject to a successful work permit hearing," read a statement in the Hammers' official website.

The Hammers had to fight hard to secure the signature of the 25-year-old striker as many other clubs were also interested in landing him after he impressive with Ecuador at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

"The Hammers fought off competition from a host of Europe's leading clubs to secure the services of Valencia, who impressed hugely in scoring three goals for his country at the FIFA World Cup finals," added the statement.

Finally Napoli have secured the services of Swansea City striker Michu on a season-long loan, with an option to make the move permanent.

The 28-year-old Spaniard, who was impressive at the Liberty Stadium in the 2012/13 season, following his £2 million move from Rayo Vallecano, failed to do well in the succeeding one due to him being plagued by injuries.

And now Swansea City have allowed the Spaniard, who netted 22 goals in all competitions a couple of seasons ago, to join Napoli.

"Swansea City can confirm that Michu has joined Napoli on a season-long loan with an agreed option to buy.The 28-year-old completed a medical earlier today and will now link up with Rafa Benitez's side ahead of the new campaign," read a statement in the Swans official website.
