Salman Khan's "Prema Leela" did well at the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (AP/T) box office on the first day to beat the opening day record of "Happy New Year" (HNY).

"Prema Leela" is the Telugu dubbed version of Salman Khan's "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" (PRDP). Its promos had created a lot of curiosity among film goers. The movie, which was released in 340 cinema halls across both the states, opened to decent response everywhere on Thursday.

The Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor starrer registered an average of more than 60% occupancy on its opening day. As per early estimates, "Prema Leela" has grossed approximately Rs 2.50 crore at the AP/T box office on the first day. Its opening day nett collection stands at Rs 1.75 crore.

Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan have dubbed their recent releases like "Dhoom 3", "PK", "Chennai Express", "Happy New Year" and "Krrish 3" in Telugu. These movies were released in over 300 cinema halls in these states and did decent collection. 

Trade analyst Amod Mehra had tweeted: "Pre-diwali is considered the worst period in the entire year..Stiil #Krrish3 collects ₹26cr on day 1 (₹24 + ₹2cr Tamil & Telagu). OUTSTANDING !"

Another trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted, "Dhoom 3- All Languages Hindi Rs 33.42 Cr; Tamil & Telugu Rs 2.80 Cr; Total Rs 36.22 Cr."

Taran Adarsh also tweeted, #HappyNewYear collects ₹ 44.97 cr on opening day: Hindi 42.62 cr, Telugu 1.43 cr and Tamil 92 lacs."

This is for the first time Salman Khan has dubbed his movie in Telugu and released it with the original in these states. As per early estimates, "Prema Leela" has beaten the opening day record of "Happy New Year". But the movie has failed to shatter the record of "Dhoom 3", which raked in around Rs 2 crore in these states.
